When did you start modeling and how did you get more involved in it? What is most challenging, print or runway?
I started out in the fashion world when I was about 12 years old in Birmingham, Alabama. A photographer did a test shoot with me. He then gave the results to a modelling agency. One of the agents liked my look enough to send me to Atlanta to runway test me and to have me compete with other girls for a spot on their roster for a contract. I was lucky that I got to sign on the dotted line. As I got more involved I found that I'm a big fan of surreal art, unreal clothes, great sets, and over the top emotions. My own interests in life turned my head to more artistic modelling. So, feeling the need to express myself the way I liked I found others with the same interests as myself and spent a ton of time networking. I think runway is the most challenging because with a photo shoot there is always the option of delete and with runway it is live and you never know what might happen, what might fall off of you, or what you might fall on. Fall on a photo shoot its funny. Fall on a runway it's embarrassing. But, I have to say I love the runway. I love knowing it is what it is and there is no option for delete and redo.
What are your tips to becoming a model?
OK, Here is where I get all mom like. Be SMART about what you do. If you are just starting out ask around and do some research on the people you would like to work with. Above all know what you like and don't like. You have to know who you are and what you want to get out of being a model. Be honest, on time, and have a good attitude. Don't take anything for granted and be sure you know how to handle rejection. Lastly, I can not stress this enough NO REAL AGENCY TAKES MONEY FROM YOU UP FRONT! A real agency makes a % of what you make on jobs they get for you... end of story... if anyone ask you for money up front for anything they are a scam! Modelling in the art world is a tight community. We all know or know of each other. In my opinion modelling is a do it yourself business. Network, take care of your looks, and be yourself.
Are you single?
Well if you have to know, NOPE I am taken. My partner of over 8 years now is the amazingly talented painter David Stoupkakis. He has my heart and I'm pretty sure he isn't giving it back. And, well, I only got one heart to give so there ya go.. I'm taken.
Will you do TFP (trade for print) with me?
Probably not. But, it never hurts to ask. If you have a really cool project and amazing work I'm sure I'd love to know about it. The problem is I don't really have much free time. I do a ton of things other than modelling. So, when I do have free time I like to spend it with David and my insane close friends.
I see you worked with ______ artist. Can I draw or paint you?
I'm very flattered and of course you are welcome to draw or paint me from images you find of me on-line. However, you are not allowed to use them for anything commercial without contacting me first. Every single image you see of me has a copyright to it. I do sit for some very well known painters and have been a sit model for many years. In fact, most of my modelling work comes from working with painters and artists. If you fancy having me sit for you contact booking@aprella.com for rates.
What do you do when you are not modelling or performing?
I spend time with David Stoupakis and my close group of brilliant friends of course.
I train twice a week on Trapeze and Aerial Silks.
I try to play guitar.
I go out to shows.. usually metal shows.
Sometimes I run lights at events.
I donate time to help a good cause.
I take my AE1 Cannon around the city.
I travel all over the world for fun.
I am a huge fan of roller coasters, motorcycles, bungee jumps and anything that helps my craves for adrenaline.
I'm a big fan... Can we meet?
Probably not on my own time. I'm pretty busy with my life and well, there are a ton of crazy people out there. How would I know for sure you weren't one of them? If you come to a performance I am doing or if you see me in a club, bar, venue, art show or the like then please by all means, feel free to say hello to me. I'd be happy to meet you while I'm there.
